Achieving Classic Wardrobe Status

So I finally grew up at 41.

My closet no longer consists of trendy items I only wear once if at all. It’s full of classic pieces I can mix and match. My closets never really been super messy. It’s always been organized and easier to find things. But it was also overfill and hidden because it wasn’t pretty.

When we redid our bedroom and floors we room our closet doors off and I don’t hate it. I like being able to see stuff all the time, and be proud of how nice it looks.

I own a store so you would think I had a million clothes but I don’t. I have a standard size walk in closet that I share with my husband. And we even have some blankets in there.

Anyways my point is. You can make getting ready enjoyable or stressful, whatever is best and works better for you.

I get a lot of random text messages, DM’s and emails asking for wardrobe and closet organization advice. Which I absolutely love! 💗💗💗Thank you! Sometimes it takes me a bit to get back to you all so I figured I’d put out a basic checklist and a blog post for some insight.

While you’re all fired up and inspired to do some @mariekondo #tidyingup keep this in mind. You can make many outfits out of these basic pieces. We have these available for a huge discount, some are even on clearance 50-75% off @fifisalbany or your local consignment shops and thrift stores if you’re on a budget or earth conscious.

Coming to this point is really a coming of age. You become sick of looking at a closet full of clothes with nothing to wear. Surfing through items you never wear can be daunting and uses unnecessary brain power, combine that with not being a morning person and blagch, Such an unnecessary gross start to the least favorite part of your day.

An easy way to achieve classic closet status is by removing everything. Clean your closet out entirely. Get bins for piles of unwanted items ready; donate, give, sell. Label them with big signs so it avoids getting mixed up.

When you’ve sorted and saved only things you love and wear, start organizing your closet. Start by arranging shirts in color order. White to black. Colors I prefer to arrange In order are;

  • White
  • Blush pink
  • Burgundy
  • Green
  • Grey
  • Heathered black and white
  • Black and white
  • Black and white stripes
  • Pinstripes
  • Black

Keep in mind these are pretty much the only colors I wear in public. The rest are lounge and work wear I only wear at home or outside doig house work so you can refer to the ROYGBIV color chart for your organization. The secondary and tertiary colors go in between their makers.

  • Red
  • Orange
  • Yellow
  • Green
  • Blue
  • Indigo
  • Violet
