Mine Tan Body skin; Bronze Babe Home Spray Tan Kit Review

As someone who has 25+ years with sunless tanners, and 18 with spray tans, I consider myself somewhat of an expert. I’ve tried hundreds of different formulas. Foams, Gels, Lotions, Can Sprays, Spray tan machines and Airbrushes all in that roster. I was really excited when I came across Mine Tan Body skin on Instagram.

I had my eye on the Bronze Babe Home Spray Tan Kit for a few months, but was still a bit hesitant at the $99 ($149 reg) sale price. On Memorial day they had it on sale for an extra discount at around $69 which was closer to my budget, so I jumped on it. While waiting for my package to arrive I kept my eyes to the comments on their page. Just to see what the masses were saying so I was prepared ahead of time for any troubleshooting that might occur using this new machine.

Some were saying that it sprays unevenly, machine sputters, etc. But was relieved and impressed with the fast responses from Mine Tan Body Skin’s social media staff reminding them to check a few things. All of which were mentioned in the manual and use card which few people will read. Most people don’t read instructions, not for new products, appointments, or services. It’s annoying quite honestly.

Be a good consumer, read the directions!

First things first…

The package arrived fairly quickly, the box was shipped in a poly bag, and the box was a little beaten up but the machine and contents were fine. For anyone ordering this as a gift for someone, you might want to mention this in your notes on shipping to send in a box as opposed to a poly bag.

Kit includes:

  • Bronze Babe Spray Tan Machine in pink or black. I chose pink, obvi!

  • Double Dark Pro Spray Mist (237ml/8fl oz)

  • Bronze on Applicator Mitt - for blending and rubbing in so it’s more even.

PREP CHECKLIST

THE DAY BEFORE…

Skin prep

  • Exfoliate entire body

  • Shave legs and arm pits

  • Wait a day

THE DAY OF

Before you spray…

  • Get a robe or loose clothes ready to wear after you spray for a few hours. Nothing lightly colored or it could stain.

  • Lotion your palms, bottoms of feet,  nail beds and cuticles

  • Place a towel you don’t care about on the floor to stand on

  • Put a headband or disposable shower cap at your hairline to avoid staining hair

Setting up your machine

  • Remove duck bill silicone plug from inside the machine head

  • Fill the solution cup to line 2-3, you may have to refill but this is a good start.

Their Directions on their website…

  • FILL THE CUP

  • SPRAY YOUR BODY

  • RINSE IN 1-3+ HOURS

I couldn’t find on the directions exactly how much to use, which makes sense, depends on height, weight, mass so there really isn’t a universal formula so I guessed. I’m 5’2” and a size Medium. I filled the cup to line 2, then needed a refill so filled 2 more, but ended up using a total of 3. It took approximately 30 minutes my first time, plus need to wait about an hour to re-shower for a natural tan, so about 40 minutes total to spray, rinse and dry off.

SPRAYING YOURSELF

I forgot how hard it is to spray tan yourself! I def underestimated how long of a process this would be.

The arms and legs and stomach are fairly easy. You just need to be a little bit flexible which I am but I’m not really flexible because I haven’t done yoga since the beginning of the pandemic so I found it really hard to get my upper back in between my shoulders and definitely needed help with that.

The gun itself is really easy to hold, it’s lightweight and comfortable. The release button is easy to press as not to trigger a flare up for tendonitis or other muscle issues. I found that I can use my first two fingers when I’m doing the front of my body and sides, but then had to switch to my thumb in order to reach my back. The machine itself is lightweight, easy to hold and spray, UNTIL it’s time to spray the back. I missed a few spots which made me realize just how NOT flexible I am, and how much I need to get back into Yoga. LOL.

BIGGER GIRLS AND BIG BOOBS

My bestie @VoluptousLeah, the one I had sniff me asked me a really good question. She’s a plus sized babe and has never had a spray tan and wondered if it was for her. Instantly I’m like of course it’s for you! Then she was like, well what about my Boobs? Duh, big boobs might be tricky. I had to lift up mine to get under them and I’m a C cup, but still had to move them a bit then massage and spread more solution around with the mitt to blend and get in the cracks. I can’t speak to experience, but I would expect that you’d need to spend more time blending it in for bigger boobs, and even spray a little extra on the mitt to apply extra solution to make it right. I’d love to hear your experiences and how this works for you gals!

RINSING OFF

The directions said for a natural tan rinse off after an hour. So I gave myself about 45 minutes, honestly I just wasn’t sure (trust the process) and ran out of time. At first after I rinsed, I thought I probably could’ve gone two hours. It seemed at first like I rinsed most of it off. But after seeing it 3 hours later I am really pleased with the color. It is natural looking. I am normally a 103 in our Foundation shade (they start at 100) and am now closer to a 109.

With traditional spray, tans, you’re really not supposed to shower for 24 hours afterwards so I do appreciate the need to rinse off after because one of the things I don’t like about typical spray tans is that you’re very sticky the entire day and I feel like my clothes stick to it.

Rinsing off inside the shower was easy but a little messy. I have an off white shower stall, and saw a bit of overspray on the walls, so you probably want to make sure that you’re able to use something to watch on the wall so that it doesn’t stay in early late or if your shower is porous. Remember to bring the blending Mitt in there with you so that you can use body wash or shower gel to rinse it and clean it off really good so it’s ready to use next time.

TIME & PLANNING

Overall, I would say for your first time give yourself about two hours. I had planned on doing my hair today but after rinsing my face off I realise that so much Tanner was rinsed into my hairline, so I had a winner in order to get it out so I didn’t colour my blonde hair.

The smell is good. It doesn’t stink like traditional sunless tanners, and now that I’ve rinsed it off I can’t even smell it at all. I met with my bestie a few hours after and made her sniff me, she said she couldn’t smell anything.

I am happy with my $69 sale purchase. I don’t know if I would be happy if I spent $149 on it because I can’t see myself doing this all the time with the difficulty of getting my bag and the amount of time it actually takes me to do.

I’ll most likely end up keep it in my kit because I’m sure I can use it on set an on location for other jobs, but I probably will only do this tol myself a few times a year.

I will say though it is pretty light in terms of toxicity. I have asthma and I find a lot of sprays trigger coughing fits and wheezing, but this one did not probably because of the low perfume content.

Now that a few hours have passed I am pretty pleased with the overall results. Aside from having difficulty spraying my upper back and shoulders there’s really nothing else I dislike.
